MX Racing Season Prep: When to Buy Graphics

Timing Your MX Graphics Purchase for Maximum Impact

Every serious MX racer knows that preparation is everything. Whether you're gearing up for a local amateur series or a regional championship, having your bike dialed in (including your graphics) can make a real difference in how you feel on the gate. But, when exactly should you be ordering your custom MX bike graphics?

Why Timing Matters

Custom MX graphics aren't just about looks. Fresh, high-quality graphics protect your plastics from UV damage, scratches, and roost. They also signal to competitors and sponsors that you take your racing seriously. Ordering at the right time ensures your kit arrives before race day — not after.

The MX Racing Season Calendar

In the US, the main MX racing seasons typically follow this pattern:

  • Supercross Season: January – May (indoor stadiums)
  • Outdoor Nationals / AMA Pro Motocross: May – August
  • Local & Regional Amateur Racing: March – October (varies by region)
  • Loretta Lynn's Amateur National: Late July / Early August

If you're racing outdoors, you'll want your graphics ready before the spring thaw — ideally by late February or early March.

When to Order: Our Recommendations

6–8 weeks before your first race: This is the sweet spot. It gives you time to design, approve, and receive your custom graphics kit, plus time to install them properly before race day.

Before a big event: Heading to a regional qualifier or a big amateur race? Fresh graphics make a strong impression on promoters, photographers, and potential sponsors.

Off-season (November – January): This is actually a great time to order. You'll have plenty of time for installation, and you can start the new season looking sharp from race one.

What to Order for a Full Season

For a full MX racing season, most riders benefit from:

  • A full graphics kit (shrouds, fenders, side panels, airbox covers)
  • Spare number plates in case of damage

Ordering a complete kit upfront is more cost-effective than replacing individual pieces throughout the season.

Don't Wait Until Race Week

One of the most common mistakes riders make is waiting too long. Custom graphics require design time, production time, and shipping time. Rushing the process can lead to errors or settling for a design you're not 100% happy with.

Plan ahead, order early, and show up to the gate looking like a pro. Your bike, and your confidence, will thank you.
